The TikTok community is highly active in India despite facing an interim ban. The platform is now relying on the huge team of moderators and technology to prevent any kind of misuse- the company executive said on Thursday. This Chinese short video sharing app claims that it has 120 million active users in India and is facing a lot of criticism for the circulation of pornographic content. Some people are worried about endangering the safety of children. The Chinese company ByteDance owns this TikTok, and it has seen a dramatic rise in the user numbers over the past three years.
TikTok has claimed that it is now active in more than 150 markets and in 75 languages.
The Indian government requested both Google and Apple to block the app on their Play store.
Sumedhas Rajagopal, TikTok India Strategy and Entertainment Lead have stated that they think this ban is only interim and they are highly positive that TikTok will get a favorable response from the government.
He further added that according to the company the TikTok platform is still active and functioning.
The Ministry of Electronic and Information technology asked both Apple and Google to block this app following the Supreme Court’s refusal to stay the Madras High Court original order on April 3rd. The apex court said that it would hear about the matter on April 22.
TikTok has said that it is taking necessary steps to filter and curb any kind of pornographic content on their platform. Rajagopal said that the platform has an active content moderation team that has grown 400 percent in the last year. This team is taking down the offensive content constantly, and it has also announced in last week that is has removed six million videos.
